Sqaush ballers, I have only one question...

WHY IS SQUASH SO UNDER RATED!!!!

Squash, apart from us Squashers, gets treated as a hobby. In most organisations, squash has to fend for itself, getting its own sponsorship, and arranging its own events.... no body, outside of squash players, cares any more!!

For example, at the school I play for, our first has had to organise their own sponsorship, and own events, we have had no help from the school, at all, which is both frustrating, and under minding! We have a very good first team, who take on some of the better schools, and win... most of our players have played in more then one KZN tournament, and two players have ranked highly in the KZN standings, and yet, we recieve little or no support. If this was nay other sport, like rugby, our players would be treated like heros.... our first team rugby, hasnt done so well this year, and they have one player at KZN level out of 22. The rugby team have had sponsorship organised for them, and have got bags, practice kit, warm up kit, playing jerseys, jackets, chinos, pre match clothes,a nd many other accessories... and what has squash gotten from the school... nothing.... We have just organised sponsorship for kit and bags and practice kit, as one of our players parents had a bussiness, who have sponsored us, we are in the process of getting all of this, and I will post later about that!

I just think that Squash is so under rated, and definitely doesnt receive the respect it deserves, even at national and international level.

As non squash players always say:" It's alot like tennis isnt it??" And if this is so, then why cant squash receive the coverage on TV like tennis does! Why is thetre no big fuss made about squash championships?? Why arent children worshipping squash players, like they worship John Smit, or Roger Federer?

Please guys, I really dont see why squash is so under rated!! Please comment and tell us what you think!!

Regards

Brendon Fourie

Hello again squash ball folkes. I am a kid who is fortunate to have one of those caring fathers who really brushes off your big mistakes and still trusts you with alot. Recently many of my dunlop rackets have broken due to uncontrollable so-called 'squash mates' hitting them with all thier force. Three rackets have fallen victim to this demise and after the third I thought to my self that there is no way Im getting a new racket so I dug out An old black max of my dads and played with it. It was great until the strings broke. I had a choice that unstrung racket or my sisters Wilson. The Wilson being of standard quality just did not do the job it was terrible.

Just before one of my league team practices my dad pulled up in his bakkie and handed me a black and white case that looked plain on the one side. It was not until I flipped it over that I realised just how special it was. Instead of some cheap printing reading X-Fire or Blackstorm (the names of the previous rackets I had used which had broken) there was silver embroided lettering saying Aerogel. I thought I was in heaven, ofcourse nobody realised that in my hand was an elite specified racket. The Dunlop Aerogel Elite is one of the most advanced dunlop rackets on the world tour, AND I HAD IT!! I asked my dad if he was joking or if it was a compensation racket or something and all he said was : " Son, I just want you to go far in life and in your squash".

I will never forget those words. Playing with that racket makes you feel like your playing in the championships for the world title. It took my breath away and I hope that every other junior member on squash ball will take this as a memory message, to keep in mind the great parents and support you get from those around and closest to you. NEVER FORGET THEM, THEY ARE THE MOST IMPORTANT THING AFTER GOD
